Course Description
Course Description: This advanced course allows Early Childhood Educators to apply developmental theory to practice within a hybrid and asynchronous learning model. This 3 credit course offers an advanced level of study focusing on theory, ethics, and play-based pedagogy guided by NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) text and the updated NAEYC Code of Ethics for Early Childhood Educators. This interactive course helps ECE leaders and learners to engage further in these foundational documents, apply new knowledge to weekly case studies, and benefit from an action research portfolio project to build and scaffold new strategies into daily practice.
Audience: Directors, Leaders with a Bachelor’s Degree. Those seeking advanced credits or licensure renewal

Heather Duhamel, M.Ed.
Heather Duhamel, M.Ed (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education (Online) at Vermont State University in Vermont. Heather’s degree is in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Vermont which has guided her twenty-year career and current research focused on the potential of workforce pathways that lead to a bachelor’s degree with teacher licensure. She is conducting research with Vermont Association for the Education of Young Children and the Vermont Early Childhood Higher Education Consortium colleagues in Vermont to understand access points and barriers within our current higher education system.
