Electrical Level 2

James Navin has been in the trade for 36 Years and has been a Master for 29 Years. James has his own business since 2002. Prior to owning his own business James worked for 9 years in Industrial electrical installations and systems integration. Since owning his own business James has primarily worked on Residential, Commercial and Solar applications. James Navin has Instructor experience with the Apprenticeship Electricity 2 program for over 20 years. In recent years James was able to use safety training to help by lecturing GE employees who are entering the trade, and for the past three years James has been a presenter for NFPA 70 code update classes.

Since 1989, Electricity and Installations have been my Life. It only made sense to progress to instruction to help train new electricians and pass on my passion for this trade.

James (Jay) Henderson is a Master Electrician licensed by both Vermont and New Hampshire. Having grown up in the trade alongside his father, who is also an electrician, Jay developed a strong foundation in the electrical field from an early age. He holds a Batchlor of Science degree in Natural Science with minors in Physics, Chemistry, and Geology from Lyndon State College.  

After completing his college degree, Jay went on to finish the electrical apprenticeship program. This combination of academic study and hands on experience allows him to connect with his students and bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application. A natural affinity for math and science further enhances his teaching approach.  

Jay believes that teaching the next generation of electricians strengthens his own skills and helps ensure that future tradespeople remain truly skilled. Inspired by his own Year two instructor- who made a lasting impact on his career-Jay chose to teach Electrical 2 in hopes of having the same positive influence on his students. 

Karl Johansen is a thirty-eight-year electrician and has been an Electric 2 instructor for six years. Karl started his career as a power lineman in the United States Air Force and recently retired from the VTANG as a power production specialist. Currently he is employed as an industrial and high-voltage electrician at a microchip foundry in Essex Jct. VT. Karl is skilled in motor controls, relays, valve actuation, supervisory control and data acquisition, and power generation. 

Karl’s knowledge of power metering and experiences in both the military and with utilities makes him a good fit for teaching electrical circuits and the relationships of voltage, current, and power. Karl loves to bring topical, practical, and career relevant information into his lectures to enhance student understanding of the lesson materials. 

Karl lives in central Vermont where he loves to hike, ski, and spend time with his family. 

Wayne Hall is an Electrical Level 2 Instructor who brings extensive industry knowledge and practical experience to the apprenticeship program. He holds Vermont and New Hampshire Master Electrician licenses, as well as OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and Vermont Fire Alarm Technician Qualifications. 

Wayne has a strong appreciation for the role that mathematics and problem-solving play in the electrical trade. He believes that a solid understanding of mathematical concepts and formulas is essential for success in many aspects of electrical work, making Electrical Level 2 an ideal opportunity to help apprentices strengthen these foundational skills. 

As an instructor, Wayne is dedicated to supporting the next generation of electricians by sharing the knowledge, experience, and lessons learned from those who have built the trade before them. He values the apprenticeship model as a means of fostering technical competence, professionalism, and continuous learning. 

Through his commitment to education and workforce development, Wayne helps apprentices build the confidence and skills necessary for successful and rewarding careers in the electrical industry.
